There's a word in the Filipino language that i don't think has a counterpart in any other language and that's gigil. Ok maybe "giddy" comes close--but not quite. It's that feeling of utter non-control as a reaction to something else, with a sudden urge...to what exactly? To some it's the urge to pinch that cute little baby, to others it's the sudden quiver you feel when you see your crush, and to some it's the sudden urge to hit someone extremely annoying.
What got my gigil reflex going was with the white walls of my new place. Especially the ones the painters leave every weekend on their days off. So every weekend for the last 3 weeks, I did those damn walls myself. nakakagigil eh!
First the red room. Bought the wrong color red for my living room actually and since custom-mixed paint can't be returned, I figured I'd use the gallon someplace else.
Okay, one thing you need to know--I know I'm an interior designer and all--but my new place has absolutely no theme, nothing. There are materials I definitely wanted to use, but I didn't really have time to think of how to fix up the place. It was completely bare, had no fixtures, had lots of corners and my brother hired a couple of workers I had to either use or lose. So for 5 days a week, I used them.
Back to the red paint. That went to the guest room--the room I didn't really care what happened in, hehe. And it turned out great! I figure I'll just put my old wrought iron bed in there, and my framed flamenco dancer and ole! Welcome to Spain.
The week later, I went to Siargao for my birthday (extended another 4 days) but was back the weekend after. Back to yet another room with white walls--the Master bedroom. Headed to the paint store and had a gallon of aqua made. They didn't really had the blue I wanted (which was close to teal, actually--the same color as the waters of Dako island, Siargao)--so I had to mix in tinting colors myself. And yes, I call it Dako Blue (Or maybe should I call it Dakqua? haha!). Now all I need is a bed for THAT room.
The next week (last week to be axact), my painter finished the living room accent wall in the (real) dark crimson that I wanted plus a couple of walls I assigned beige. It's Saturday now and I went upstairs to check. It's all falling to place...but there are still some white walls that were--you guessed it--nakakagigil! So I used whatever leftover taupe there was and painted the dining area wall till the paint ran out. Hay. Guess I'll leave the other walls to the painter on Monday.
